Prof. Dario Seglie, University of Turin Vesa Matteo Piludu, University of Helsinki PREHISTORIC ROCK ART AS A RESOURCE FOR THE TERRITORY: LOCAL CULTURES, TOURISM, CONTEMPORARY AND APPLIED ARTS. Experiences and Projects in South and Northern Europe and Asia. ABSTRACT The presentation deals with local and international projects on prehistoric rock art: a strong resource for the valorization of local cultures, arts and tourism in Southern and Northern Europe and Asia. Seglie and Piludu will present successful examples from Norway (Alta), Sweden (Tanum and Vitlicke), Finland, Italy (Valcamonica and Monte Bego), France, Spain, European Russia (Republic of Karelia) and Siberia (Tomskaya Pisanista). In many places rock art has been really a strong impulse for sustainable development of touristic itineraries, museums, didactic activities for schools, international academic studies and conferences, traditional and applied arts. For several decades Professor Seglie has worked on this field, as a scholar and a Museum director. Piludu will show how in Finland and Scandinavia rock art has been a source of inspiration for arts: television documentaries and fictions, design, painting, photography, literature and music. In Spain, France and Italy rock art are some of the most relevant tourist attractions. Could these experiences be a model also for other Northern counties? How positive trends could be strengthened by an international and local network of public, scientific and private efforts?
